My wife worked at a popular outdoor store for a while and we got discounts. So, we have a few Klean Kanteens with the Cafe cap. They are great, Klean Kanteen says they can be run through the dishwasher so they can be very hygienic.
The Klean Kanteen is excellent at keeping stuff out of your drink and keeping your drink from escaping. However, your drink will coat the inside parts of the valve that makes the cap work so well. When you put extra stuff in coffee or use it for hot chocolate some of that stuff stays on the valve surfaces when you don't take the cap apart for the dishwasher. When we have run these parts through the dishwasher we have occasionally suffered from the lost sock syndrome.
We made this little clothespin looking deal to hold the parts while it goes through the dishwasher. It is the right size to fit inside the canteen if you are hiking. It will keep the parts together if you are air drying. These are made from 304 stainless steel, so they won't corrode.
